A record year of fleet investments for robust future growth
2025 was a positive year for Ahola Transport. Our business grew across all market areas, and we continued to purposefully develop our operations to be more environmentally efficient. The year was marked by exceptionally large investments in our fleet.
To respond to the market development, we are investing heavily in new equipment. During the year, we acquired a total of 100 new trailers and 100 trucks, some of which are electric. Ahola Transport currently has four electric vehicles, and their role in operational activities is being gradually expanded.
In addition to the new additions to our fleet, we are also focusing on extending the lifecycle of our existing equipment. In 2025, we carried out extensive refurbishments of our dollies: they were sandblasted and painted, and their axles, fifth wheel top plates and all technical components were renewed. With regular maintenance and proactive measures, we ensure transport safety and reliability also in the coming years.
Major leaps in electrification
Electric heavy-duty vehicles have evolved in leaps and bounds in recent years. Just a few years ago, the range of a 32-tonne electric vehicle was around 140 kilometres, whereas today a 50-tonne vehicle has a range of up to 600 kilometres. This development makes the planning and execution of transports significantly more flexible.
To support electrification, we improved the capacity of the Naantali charging station by adding three 200-kilowatt batteries. We also introduced an Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve, which supports both optimised charging and participation in the electricity system’s reserve markets. With this solution, charging can be scheduled for the most affordable periods on the electricity spot market, and stored energy can be utilised flexibly for the next day’s needs.
AI supports transportation safety
Together with Ahola Digital, we continued to develop an AI-based smartphone application for securing cargo loads. The app has been in use for more than a year now. It uses camera technology to scan secured cargo and assess its compliance with safety regulations. A new feature added to the app is a notification function that communicates deviations to the driver and the control centre, thereby improving overall transport safety.
Security for supply chains and the future
In 2025, Ahola Transport was granted Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) certification, which supports the security and smooth flow of international supply chains. In addition, we implemented an agreement reform (agreement kilometres) that guarantees our contract carriers at least the minimum compensation stipulated in the agreement, which provides them with better financial predictability.
Based on the moderately positive signals in the markets, we have made the decision to invest in 30 vehicles for the year 2026. We will continue our determined work to improve our energy efficiency, safety and operational reliability.
