Green Wheels is our program for comprehensive environmental work. We are striving to reduce emissions and fuel consumption as well as increase our employees’ commitment and skills in environmental issues. We achieve this by utilizing digitalisation, efficient utilizing of the transport fleet and by moving towards alternative energy choices.
The first program for ECO-driving started already in 1998 under the name HED, Heavy Eco Driving. The next milestone was achieved when Ahola Transport received a certificate according to ISO 14001 in 2002, at this time, the name of the environmental program was also changed to the current, Green Wheels.
Our ERP-system, Attracs, which was launched in 2003 to support our dynamic logistics concept, laid the foundation for our digitalisation and is striving the development further.
Our long-term digitalisation work has provided us with tools to measure and reduce actual emissions. By combining vehicle data with operational data, we obtain a powerful tool for planning and reporting.
Our Green Wheels program today consists of the four sub-areas described in the picture:
With the help of this, we have reached our current level of -59%* in CO2 emissions, which means that we have reached the EU2030 target already in 2019.
*The comparison is done against the official industry level figures in the reference year 2005.The emissions reduction was verified on June 11th, 2020 by DNV GL Business Assurance Finland Oy Ab
Green kilometers transports run with HVO biodiesel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). HVO is made from 100 % renewable raw materials that do not release any new carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. 90 % lower greenhouse gas emissions (CO2).
